Fucose

Fucose is one of five glyconutrients found in breast milk.[1] It is also commonly found in astragalus and some brown algae. It is a saccharide associated with some blood groups.[2]

N-Acetyl Neuraminic Acid

N-acetyl neuraminic acid is one of five glyconutrients found in breast milk.[3]

The mentioned glyconutrients in this article (all 5 pages) are attached to various glycoforms (such as glycoptroteins and glycolipids) and are used for cellular recognition, communication and adhesion. Glycobiology has increased our knowledge of these eight simple sugars (glyconutrients) and their role in intercellular communication, immune responses and many other biological functions.
